In the interests of keeping the other book threads for free discussion, I am opening this thread so you can recommend books you like to others. Please don't discuss the full plot of the stories here - brief outlines only wink.gif

Good idea. wink.gif

I would recommend anything by Nora Roberts, or by J.D. Robb. JD Robb is Nora's pen name for her In Death series, and if you go for that, then start with Naked In Death.

Otherwise, give Nora a try. wink.gif

A Next-Gen HP Fanfic, found HERE.

Have you ever, like, walked naked to the fridge in the middle of the night to get a drink or something, and then you realize that someone saw you? And then you realize you're kind of into it? If not, then it never happened to me, either. Ever.

"I'd say that it's one short step from 'wizards first' to 'pure-bloods first, and then to 'Death Eaters.'
We're all human, aren't we? Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving."
KINGSLEY SHACKLEBOLT.

Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

If you like Star Trek, then I recommend the "Myriad Universes" books
Infinitys Prism
&
Echo and Refractions

Both are a set of three books in one big book. The individual stories are proper "full length" books in themselves (if you know what I mean laugh.gif )

The stories are all independent, so you can read in any order, they're each set in a different alternate universe of the Star Trek universe, so for example one is set in the DS9 era, but in a universe where Khan "won" the Eugenics War

I like the whole idea of alterante universes etc, so that mixed with Star Trek worked really well smile.gif

I second Kim's recommendation of Nora Roberts. I've only read two of her trilogies, but they've been awesome.

I'd also like to recommen the His Dark Material trilogy by Philip Pullman, which I'm sure Shelly will agree with me on.

Also, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott is an awesome series. There's only two books so far (with a third due this year) but it's planned to be a six part series.

If anyone else has any other recommendations, I'd love to know, as I'm trying to read 50 books this year, but currently only have 23 on my list! laugh.gif

You are right, Clare, I definately agree with your Dark Materials recomendation wink.gif

I am reading a book called "Sex and the Single Vampire" at the moment. It was a bit slow to begin with, but as soon as I hit the half way point, I've been devouring it. I think the title says everything you need to know wink.gif

--------------------

"I want to see the Northern Lights and bears and icebergs and everything. I want to know about Dust."
"So Lyra and her daemon turned away from the world they were born in, and looked toward the sun, and walked into the sky."

"Harry clutched the Cloak tightly around him in the darkness, travelling deeper and deeper into the Forest, with no idea where exactly Voldemort was, but sure that he would find him. Beside him, making scarcely a sound, walked James, Sirius, Lupin and Lily, and their presence was his courage, and the reason he was able to keep putting one foot in front of the other."

I love love love love Michelle Magorian. I've read two of her books, one made me cry, and I don't usually cry at books and the other is my most favorite book of all time.

From what I've seen she usually writes books about children being evacuated, and they are brill

I was looking for a thread like this.

I've been really slacking on reading lately and I haven't been keeping up with what everyone reads. So, if anyone feels like throwing some suggestions my way please do!

I usually read horror, I guess. But I'm really open to anything as long as it's not romance. laugh.gif

I heard of them, are they the books that True Blood show is about? I don't like that show. laugh.gif

Sean brought home a Marvel graphic novel, I might start that if Gabe doesn't hog it.

I'd recommend Graceling and Fire, both by Kristin Cashore. They're not really a series at all, but they're set in separate kingdoms of the same fictional world. You don't need to have read one to get the gist of the other, but as I read Graceling first, I'd tell anyone to do the same. They'd both be considered fantasy, and probably are classified in your library as young adult, as they are in mine, but I still think they're fabulous books.

OK! Since I've been missing my Harry Potter and bouncing boing1.gif off the walls from boredom I have gone hunting for a good coffee1.gif read. The following in no particular order are the AUTHORS I have followed devotedly to the point I have purchased ALL of their work ( To Jimmy`s chargrin, which he then had no choice but to buy me an ebook).

J.R. Ward - The Black Dagger Brotherhood (Vampires right sexy ones too, Zadist is by far my fave) wub.gif

Sherilynn Kenyon - The Dark Hunter Series ( I have to warn you the first one to the series is a turn off(FANTASY LOVER is the title, need I say more) and you don`t become dedicated to the books until I say the third book but they are a good read Vampires, Greek Gods, demons and all the jazz. P.S. You`ll fall in love with ACHERON wink.gif ) P.S. I went to her book signing, and got to sign my hard cover of ACHERON, she`s form New Orleans I believe since her books are based on that town. PLEASE try her out.

Kresley Cole - Immortals After Dark Series (Once you get started with these you`ll never stop. I LOVE HER WORK, I can`t stress this enough`. She`s FUN letch.gif ! I enjoy all her characters (demons, vampires, Valkyries, Werewolves) and I even followed her into another genre which sooo surprised me jawdrop.gif becuase it then led me to 18th century romance novels...I KNOW right, but I do have to add that I am a huge Jane Austen fan I have her works in my collection. But back to Kresley; I do have to recommend you to my boys `The MCCarrick`s Courtland, Hugh and Ethan, they`re very bad Highlanders letch.gif . Once you`ve read them you`ll thank me, I have a soft spot for Hugh wub.gif and let`s not forget the Suther land brothers. Grant and Nicole get into all sort of mischief)

Lori Foster - She`s more of romance and that`s it but it`s good. I thought of Kaz when I read her work of UFC or as she refers to them as Mixed Martial Arts fighters; and her take on them. I enjoyed it, I know Kaz loves wrestlers but these were great.

Mary Balogh writes lovely 18th century romance novels, very devout to Jane Austen`s style. Her Slightly series and Simply Series are my favourites. Julia Quinn is nice too but Mary Balogh is my fave.

Lora Leigh is just plain Naughty.

Did I mention these are all romance and not for anyone under the legal age. Just thought you should know. If you have read them please let me know I would love to have chat open up about any of them. If you haven`t please do try them out.
